Sylvia K. Olsen

Sylvia Olsen passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on October 22, 2023, at 89 years of age. She was a kind, loving and selfless person throughout her life. Her children, family and friends are what she valued most. She was the Beloved wife of 54 years to the late James F. Olsen, Jr. and was also preceded in death by her parents, Elsie Culligan Kuchler Fury and Edwin Thomas Kuchler, and her sister, Danielle Fury Roby. She was the loving mother of Jamee Olsen Brewster (Art) and Beryl Olsen King (Tony); proud grandmother of Alexander, William and Nicholas Brewster; and step-grandmother of Elizabeth and Amelia King. She is also survived by her nieces, Phyllis Breaud and Bridget Gerstner. She was the devoted friend of Marilyn Angell Aucoin since childhood. Sylvia was born and raised in New Orleans and was a proud graduate of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School. As a parishioner of St. Clement of Rome Church, she was a member of the Young Elders. She was also active in several clubs, including the Fun Seekers, Jolly Jacks Social Club and Sacred Heart Bonco Group. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Clement Eiswirth and Dr. Erika Diaz-Narvaez for the wonderful care they provided. Also, the family would like to thank her caregivers, Marita Lee and Donna Thomas, and the staff at Summerhouse Vista Shores Assisted Living. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, 4317 Richland Avenue, Metairie, LA 70002, on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Private interment to follow. In lieu of flowers, masses are preferred.
