Thomas James Davis, III passed away on Friday, August 22nd at the age of 81, surrounded by his family. Known as “Tommy”, “Tom” and “TD” to his friends and “Pops” to his grandchildren, he spent most of his life in the New Orleans area.
Tommy graduated from Alcee Fortier Senior High School in 1963. Following high school, he attended Loyola University and Soule Business College where he studied accounting. Tommy served in the United States Marine Corps as a Reserve from 1964-1971. He spent most of his career working for C.F. Bean, LLC, a Louisiana-based dredging company. He served in various roles including Manager of Payroll/Accounting Department and a Project Manager.
Tommy always loved a good party and never met a stranger. He loved New Orleans and rarely missed local’s day at Jazz Fest or St. Patrick’s Day festivities. He was a member of the New Orleans Downtown Irish Club and the Lyons Carnival Club.
Tommy had a deep love for fishing and spent many years living along the banks of the Jordan River in Kiln, MS. When he was not traveling for work or fishing, you could often find him, especially on Thursday afternoons, enjoying the company of friends at his favorite neighborhood bar.
Later in life he was a devoted grandfather having attended countless baseball games, soccer matches, dance revues and cheerleading events.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas James Davis, Jr and Claire Langman Fernandez. He is survived by his two daughters, Chandra Jambon (Steve) and Tricia Porteous (Timmy) along with their six children: Harrison (Maggie), Madelynn, Katelyn, Mia, Annie and Julia and one great-grandchild, Thomas Michael. He is also survived by his devoted sisters, Mary Davis Talamo (Joe) and Sharon Davis Dessauer (Mickey) along with many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
Tom’s family would like to thank the staff at Fidelis House, who loved him like family and took excellent care of him in his final years. We are truly grateful for their compassion, kindness and love.
Tommy would have wanted us to celebrate his life rather than dwell on his passing. We invite you to honor his memory by remembering the joyful moments he shared with family and friends. In keeping with his spirit, please wear something colorful and bright as we gather to celebrate his life. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Thursday August 28th, 2025 from 10am-12pm. The interment will be held privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to honor Pop’s memory with a donation to your favorite charity.
