Thomas Emmet Durel passed away peacefully in his home on August 17, 2015 at the age of 65. He is preceded in death by his parents, Berthe Chatelain Durel and Emmet Albert Durel. Beloved brother of Denise Durel. Loving uncle and grand uncle to Jessica Crane and husband David Crane and their children, William Crane, Canon Crane, David McCluskey, and Wells Taylor Crane; Dmitri Sofianos and wife Erin Sofianos and their children, Amelia Sofianos and Alexander Sofianos; Stefan Sofianos and wife Talley Sofianos.
Tom, a native of New Orleans, earned his AA from Delgado Community College, a BA from Loyola University, and Master of Fine Arts at UNO. He was a talented graphic artist and photographer. He taught at Delgado, and worked for WWL TV, Urban Transportation, and at Burke-Kleinpeter as well as the Corp of Engineers in New Orleans. Tom especially loved Mardi Gras and was the King of Bards of Bohemia in 1994, and was a member of Krewe du Vieux.
There will be a Memorial Mass on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 1:00 pm at St. Pius X in Lakeview.
