Thomas Eugene Jameson

Thomas “Tommy” Eugene Jameson passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025, at the age of 83, with his daughter and grandson by his side. He was born on March 9, 1942, and was a lifelong resident of the New Orleans area.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Susie Day Jameson, his beloved wife of 54 years, Katherine Savarino Jameson, and his nephew, Scott Jameson .

He is survived by his daughter, Angela Jameson, grandson, Scott C. Bourg, Jr., brother, James Jameson (Trudy), niece, Dawn Jackson (David), and nephew, Chad Jameson (Jenny). He is also survived by his great-nieces and nephews, Justin Jameson (Victoria), Emily Jameson, and Andrew Jameson.

Tommy was born in New Orleans to Henry and Susie Day Jameson. Delivered by a midwife, he was premature at birth, weighing only 5 lbs. He grew up in the Irish Channel in New Orleans and graduated from Warren Easton High School before majoring in microbiology at the University of Southwestern Louisiana (USL, now University of Louisiana in Lafayette, ULL). Even though he was only 5lbs at birth, that did not stop him from achieving athletic success at USL in sports. Thomas won numerous medals for competing in the discus event in track and field during his four years there on a full athletic scholarship.

He met the love of his life, Katherine, while still in college and they were married in 1966. He worked for his father-in-law at a family business for many years before taking a job at The Times-Picayune in the early 1980s. Tommy was passionate about his position as a maintenance mechanic in the mailroom where he worked for 25 years. After his retirement he coached middle school kids at St. Martin School for several years, sharing his love of the discus.

He had a wonderful personality and a loving heart. He was very witty, loved telling jokes, and had a way about him that made you want to be his friend. He made many lifelong friends over the years that he kept in touch with.

Tommy was a family man. He loved nothing more than spending time with his devoted wife, daughter, and grandson. Whether it was going on family vacations or just having a nice Sunday dinner together, he enjoyed being with his family more than anything. He will be remembered for his kindness, compassion, and generous nature, his love for family and friends, his soft spot for animals, and for the way he lived his life and treated those around him.
