

Born on September 9, 1934, in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, his family moved to Alexandria, Louisiana in 1939. He graduated from Menard Memorial High School in 1952. He was a talented singer, appearing in local programs in Alexandria while in high school and was named “Most Talented Freshman Boy” at Louisiana State University, where he studied pre-med before earning his medical degree from the LSU School of Medicine in 1959.
Dr. Moore completed a rotating internship at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in 1960 and a three-year residency in psychiatry at Charity Hospital of Louisiana. He proudly served as a First Lieutenant in the North Carolina National Guard and in the United States Army Reserve Medical Corps, earning the rank of Captain before he was honorably discharged in 1969.
From 1963 to 1996, he practiced psychiatry in the greater New Orleans area and later continued his education with a two-year fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at LSU Medical School, completing it in 1998. In December of 2000 he elected to accept locum tenens assignments in New Mexico, Montana, Arizona, and North Dakota, finally settling in Fargo, North Dakota with his wife, Lynn, where he worked as a staff psychiatrist at Prairie St. John's and then the VA until his retirement in May 2013. They returned to New Orleans in 2020 where he remained until his death.
Outside of work, Dr. Moore was passionate about travel, hunting and fishing, skiing, scuba diving, and enjoying good food and fine wine. He loved watching football with his son and was an avid fan of the Saints and Tigers throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 51 years, Dorothy Lynn Heaslip Moore, and his six siblings: Gerald Isadore Moore, Elizabeth Lillian Moore Weishaar, Margaret Agnes Moore Fissinger, Monsignor Edmund Joseph Moore, Mary Florence Moore Duncan, and Catherine Ann Moore Waguespack.
Dr. Moore is survived by his daughter, Erin Elizabeth Moore and her son; his son, Thomas Aquinas Moore, Jr. (Amy) and her daughter and son; his daughter Kelley Kathryn Moore Jarecke (Rick) and their four daughters. He is also survived by his two stepdaughters, Jennifer Brennecke Buzzeo (Carl) and her three children; Diane Brennecke Christy (Dan) and her two children.
A memorial service to honor his life will be held from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA, 70124.
