

Thomas Leon Walters, Sr., age 73, lost his courageous 21-year battle with Parkinson’s disease and died peacefully at home on November 4, 2016. Tommy was born in the Irish Chanel of New Orleans, LA on June 17, 1943. He lived most of his life in New Orleans and moved to Metairie in 1987. Tommy leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 30 years Brenda Stokes Walters, his daughter Bridgette Walters, and his very special friends Alva Hubbard and daughter Toriean Manson, and Irma Collins. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas “Tommy” Walters, Jr., his parents Odisteen and Edward Walters, his brothers Edward and Johnny Walters, and his sister Mary Ann Leaber. Tommy retired from AT&T after 30 years of service and belonged to the Krewe of Endymion for many years. In addition to his love for family, he had a passion for Mardi Gras and St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations. The family invites family, friends, associates of AT&T, members of the Krewe of Endymion and the Irish Channel Corner Club to attend funeral services at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Funeral services will be officiated by a friend of the family, Reverend Irma Collins. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, P. O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014.
