Timon Victor Webre, aged sixty-one, passed away at his Algiers home on July 4, 2024. Tim was a life-long resident of New Orleans, a city that he loved passionately. He graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1981. He was the captain of the football team his senior year, the year that BFHS had its first winning season. Tim went to the University of California at Santa Barbara, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, followed by a Juris Doctorate earned at Tulane University. While at Tulane, he served the community as a member of the Criminal Law Clinic.
Tim’s professional life was a life of service to others as an attorney. In addition to his private practice, he worked for the Plaquemines Parish Indigent Defender Board. However, it was his representation of juveniles in Jefferson Parish that he valued the most. Tim's service on the Juvenile Defender Advisory Committee, in the Juvenile Indigent Defense Action Network, and on the Jefferson Parish Children and Youth Planning Board is a testament to his commitment to reforming the juvenile justice system while helping youths turn their lives around.
Tim was selected by the Rotary Club of Belle Chasse in 1995 to be their ambassador to India, where he spent a month traveling and meeting members of Rotary Clubs there. This sparked a love of travel with a focus on cultural appreciation from Hong Kong to Australia, Turkey to Germany and parts beyond. Timon was also an avid photographer who was a featured artist at the RHINO gallery. Tim’s specialty was capturing what a person sees by close inspection: by sitting on the levee to watch the sunrise over the French Quarter, by hiking in wildlife preserves, or by following an afternoon thunderstorm across the Mississippi River. He was committed to documenting the beauty of Louisiana - its cypress forests, marshes, butterflies, dragonflies, water lilies, alligators, turtles, snakes and some of the 100 million birds that migrate through the state each year. Timon was a bibliophile and a lover of history. Before his illness, he was working on a comprehensive history of Louisiana from its earliest days to the present.
New Orleans was the love of Tim’s life; he always knew where to get the best food, hear the best bands, and which back roads to take to either avoid or find a parade.
Timon was dedicated to his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Gil T. Webre. He is survived by his mother, Adela Dychtwald Webre, his brother Edwarde (Kim Barton) and his sister Jennifer (Gaelen Daly). Adoring uncle of Ellen Webre, Connor Daly, Audrey Daly, Amanda Daly, Lara Webre, and Haley Webre. Devoted nephew, cousin, colleague and friend to the many he knew both in and out of New Orleans.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home at 10 AM followed by interment at Lake Lawn Mausoleum. Visitation will start at 9 AM.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Timon’s life on Sunday, July 21st, at the Old Point Bar, 545 Patterson Road in Algiers. The gathering will start at 1:30 PM with an open mic at 2:30 PM to share stories and to toast Tim. Tim’s dear friend, Amanda Walker, will perform with Lynn Drury starting at 3 PM. All are invited to come and give Tim the send-off he would truly want!
