Tracy Ann Cantrell

Tracy was the beloved daughter of McKinley J. Cantrell, Jr. and Kathy Coste Cantrell; dear mother of Austin Michael Cantrell, who was the love of her life; brother of the late McKinley J. Cantrell, III; aunt of Mia Nicole Cantrell; and granddaughter of the late McKinley J. Cantrell, Sr. and Beryl Gorrondona Cantrell and Randal Coste and Molice Theriot Coste. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Tracy was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 28, 1970. She graduated from Mount Carmel in 1988, and attended L.S.U.

Tracy’s passion was dancing, which she began at the age of two. By age 15, she won the title of Junior Miss Dance of Louisiana for the Louisiane Dance Masters Chapter. She competed and won the high score of the day, and the photogenic contest in Star Systems, among many other competitions. She also placed 1st in the scholarship award for L.A.D.M. in jazz, tap, and ballet. Tracy studied dance with Mrs. Patsy Swayze at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. She also studied with Jackie Sleight, and Randy Allaire, who choreographed for Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson, and went on to receive the Joe Tremain Scholarship. While in Los Angeles, she studied at the Debbie Reynolds School of Dance, and performed with Tony Danza. She also took modeling and acting lessons at John Robert Powers in Beverly Hills, and performed in many theatre productions. Tracy truly loved to dance; it was a part of her soul.

Tracy worked for many years with her father’s Mardi Gras float construction business, McKinley Cantrell Floats. In 2019, she reigned as Queen with the Krewe of Thor.

Relatives and friends of Tracy are invited to attend the visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Saturday, March 26, 2022, beginning at 9:00AM. At 1:00PM, the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Anthony Rigoli in the Chapel of the funeral home. The interment will follow the Mass at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
