Ursula Patorno Schillaci departed this life on Sunday, March 10, 2019, at the age of 89. She was born on October 29, 1929, the date of the Great Wall Street Crash which prefaced the Great Depression. She attended school at the St. Louis Cathedral in the French Quarter and high school at the Academy of the Holy Angels. She had such high intelligence that she was offered a full scholarship to college, at a time when college admission and a full scholarship was an unusual opportunity for a woman to be offered. In order to help her family, however, through the Great Depression, she, instead, accepted a position at a banking institution. She was married to A.J. Schillaci. She is the mother of Glenn Schillaci, who predeceased his mother in death due to a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis and is the beloved mother-in-law of Cheryl Schillaci. Her father, John Patorno, was a blind attorney who was known for providing wonderful and caring legal representation to the gypsies living in the French Quarter, who paid in him with exotic gold coins and beautiful jewelry. She is the sister of Milton Patorno, Lucy Musso, and Barbara Paterno; all of whom are deceased. Beloved client and good friend of Brigette M. Piattoly, Attorney at Law, and the entire staff of the Piattoly Law Firm. Ursula Schillaci was a devout Catholic. She will be remembered by all for her quick wit, eccentric nature, and her joyful and infectious laughing- at both life's joys and trials. Visitation will be on Monday, March 18, 2019, at 12:00 p.m., at the chapel at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery, with a mass celebrated at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send masses or pray the rosary. One more gone from the Great Generation.
