Violet Benedict Collins passed away peacefully at the age of 78 on July 23, 2021. Born on December 18, 1942, in New Orleans to the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Collins, Jr., she graduated from Louise S. McGehee School and attended Ole Miss. Violet worked as the office manager at Johnson Rice Institutional Brokers before retiring. She loved gardening, decorating, reading, caring for animals, feeding the ducks at City Park, and caring for the family tomb. Violet looked forward every spring to Tulane Baseball and the Kentucky Derby. She most enjoyed time spent with her (great) nieces and nephews and Madden Breaux, going to movies and school fairs. In her younger years, she was an avid sailor and champion tennis player. She was a member of the Real Estate Broker Association, the Debutante Club of New Orleans, Southern Yacht Club, and a former member of the Orleans Club.
Violet is survived by her sister, Martha Jane Collins Borgman, her nieces, Martha “Crickett” Borgman Lapeyre (Andrew) and Kathleen Borgman Morton (Gray); her nephew, Charles Collins Borgman; her great-nephews, Preston, Thomas, and William Morton; her great-nieces, Martha and Vivienne Lapeyre; her Godchildren, Madden, Cecilia, Harper, and Myles Millet-Breaux; and her numerous, much-loved cats, especially Ned.
The family expresses great and sincere gratitude, too overwhelming to put into words, for those who have extended their kindness and care.
A visitation will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124, beginning at 10:00 AM with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 30, 2021.
