

Violet Margaret Nick Sicard was born to Mary Margaret Wahlen Nick and Louis Peter Nick in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 7, 1914. She passed away peacefully at the remarkable age of 102 on April 24, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband Forester Joseph Sicard whom she married on February 3, 1937. She is also preceded in death by her father Louis Peter Nick, mother Mary (May) Margaret Wahlen Nick; her brothers Louis Adolph Nick, Sr., Francis Marcilin Nick, Frederick John Nick. She is survived by her daughter Faye Margaret Nick Sicard Tarantino and son-in-law Michael Jude Tarantino, M.D. of New Iberia, Louisiana; her grandchildren Michael Jude Tarantino II and wife Shon of New Iberia, La.; Elizabeth Faye Tarantino Stephan and husband Bob of Houston, TX; Jennifer Ann Tarantino Melson and husband Mark of North Richland Hills, TX; and Catherine Lynn Tarantino Lively and husband Brian of San Rafael, CA and 14 great-grandchildren Michael & Ben Tarantino; Erin, Robert, Annie & Thomas Stephan; Lillian, Madeleine & Jonathan Melson; Brian, Julia, Graham, Noah & Mary Catherine Lively. She was loved and treasured by an additional 7 nieces and 5 nephews and their children & grandchildren. In her younger years she worked with businesses and catholic schools in both New Orleans and Dallas, TX as a secretary. She was a devoted wife and mother who gave continuously of her time, talent and energy to all who knew her. She was a loving example of kindness, charity, grace and patience. Violet was a long time member of Sunrise Gardner’s Club, Driftwood Garden Club, Jefferson Parish Council of Garden Clubs, Inc., Louisiana Council of Garden Clubs, National Council of Garden Clubs, AARP National, AARP Chapter 4417, Senior Friends, Naim Church Group of St. Philip Neri Church in Kenner, La., Bar None Square Dance Club of La Rose, La. She was creative, artistic and talented in many hobbies. She enjoyed golf, sewing, ceramics, flower arrangement, gardening, square dancing, traveling, painting, spending time with family and friends. Her family would especially like to thank the staff and administration of Azalea Estates Assisted Living, her sitters Belinda LaSalle, Claudette Smith, Elva Ford, Olympia Gonsoulin, Brenda Comeaux and Anna Ruiz for becoming her extended family and by whom she felt most secure, respected, and loved. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
