Virginia Schanzer de Lauréal

Virginia Bancroft Schanzer de Laurèal died Thursday, May 13, 2021. She was the wife of the late David Michel de Laurèal. Her parents were the late Dr. Carroll Smithers Schanzer of New Orleans and Raymond Emil Schanzer of Vienna, Austria. She was sister to Charlotte Schanzer of California and Sydney Schanzer Garcia of Easton MA.

She graduated from Louise S. McGehee School in 1959, attended Sweet Briar College, and graduated with a Batchelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Sophie Newcomb Memorial College. Virginia was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority, Junior League of New Orleans, etc.

Mrs. de Laurèal was a resident of New Orleans, Gaming, Austria, and Dublin, Ireland, but New Orleans was always her home.

An active member of the Catholic Church, she was fortunate enough to live and travel extensively with her family in Europe over the years. Her life with her beloved Mike was always an adventure. She was well known for her sense of style and joie de vivre.

Mrs. de Laureal is survived by her children Jean-Paul de Laurèal (Margaret), and Michéle de Laurèal Ondrusek (Christian).

She is also survived by her 4 loving grandchildren: Emile Gustave de Laurèal, Armand Louis de Laurèal, Sophie de Laurèal Ondrusek and Caroline de Laurèal Ondrusek.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, on Thursday, May 27 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM. Interment in Metairie Cemetery.
