

Walker Allen Nisbet (b. 1951) died Tuesday, April 24, 2018 of complications of kidney cancer. Mr. Nisbet recently retired from Loyola University where he was Professor of cello and string bass and artist-in-residence. He was a passionate and devoted teacher of Loyola students and adult musicians alike. In addition to performing as a soloist, he was a dedicated chamber musician, playing from 1975–80 in the Festival String Quartet, from 1986–2006 with the Loyola Piano Trio, and most recently as a founding member of the James Carter String Quartet. Prior to joining the faculty at Loyola he had played for eighteen years in the cello section of New Orleans Symphony and the Louisiana Philharmonic.
Mr. Nisbet received all university degrees, including a master’s degree in music performance, from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Robin Webb Nisbet. He is survived by his wife of forty years, Jane Ziroli Nisbet of New Orleans, his sister, Patricia Nisbet Klingenberg and brother-in-law Charles Ganelin of Oxford, Ohio, and niece Alix Robin Klingenberg of San Diego, California. There will be a memorial celebration of his life to be announced at a later date.
