

Wallace Louis LaBarre, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016. He was born June 25, 1932 and died at age 83. He was predeceased by his father, Edwin Francis LaBarre, and his mother, Yolande Jourdan LaBarre. Also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hersilie France LaBarre, and four siblings and their spouses: Mrs. Yvette LaBarre Fischbach (Andrew), Edwin Francis LaBarre, Jr. (Carleen), Lynn M. LaBarre (Ann), and Donald J. LaBarre (Antoinette). Mr. LaBarre is survived by his sister, Mrs. Juliette LaBarre Bellau (Carroll deceased) and brother, John J. LaBarre (Lillian deceased). He also leaves behind a stepdaughter, Mrs. Deidre P. Long and spouse Dr. William Long, and a stepson, Ralph Pretus, Jr. and spouse Mrs. Lisa B. Pretus. Wallace was proud of his service to his own country. He served in the Korean War from December 1952 through December 1954 and was on the battlefield when the treaty was signed between South Korea and North Korea. Besides his military service, he was an active member of the American Legion Post 350. Wallace was a native New Orleanian and was an avid sports fan, especially the New Orleans Saints. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews and grand and great grand nieces and nephews. A special thanks to all of the employees at Chateau de Notre Dame Nursing Home for their professional and loving care for Wallace. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 444 Metairie Rd. in Metairie, on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Louis Cemetery No. 3. A visitation will be held at the church beginning at 9 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Masses are preferred.
