Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Audrey Flato; his niece, Jessica Flato; maternal grandparents, Edwin and Margaret Betz; and his paternal grandparents, Walter and Christine Flato. Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Eric and his wife, Arleen Flato, and their children, Jason and his wife, Sarah Flato, and Jennifer Flato and her fiancé, Rylan Campbell; sister, Sharlene and her husband, Tom Nestor, and her son, Jonathan and his wife, Megan Pepperman; sister, Dianne Flato; and along with aunts, cousins, and many close friends who were like family to him.
Walter was born May 21, 1959, in Orange, California, and was the son of a Marine Corps officer, and had lived in numerous cities before settling in Metairie, Louisiana. He had a generous heart of gold and never hesitated to help anyone. Because he was a big kid at heart, his niece and nephews adored him, along with the children of his close friends. He was known for his friendliness and ease of being able to strike up a conversation with people he did not know. He never knew a stranger and would always make you feel welcomed. Anyone that truly knew him, knew he had such a big heart. He would give you anything, even if it were not his to give. He could make you laugh even when you were not in the best of spirits.
Walter loved his family fiercely and deeply, and we take comfort in knowing that Walter is at peace surrounded by light.
