

Walter R. “Terry” Pond, 80, of Metairie, LA died on Sunday, July 4, 2021, peacefully in his home surrounded by his family. He was born on January 28, 1941 in New Orleans, LA. He was a graduate of Slidell High School and received his AS from Delgado College and BS from Our Lady of Holy Cross College. For 36 years, he worked for NOPSI/LP&L/Entergy as a meter installer and in safety and security. A Reserve Officer for Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office since 1968, he served in Patrol, Traffic, Search and Rescue, was a former commander of LASER Reserve, and an instructor for the Training Academy. Over the years, he taught both law enforcement and the general public as an instructor for American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Walter A. Pond, Jr. and Virginia Tête Pond Ivey; his step-father, Daniel H. Ivey Sr.; sisters, Laurelee Pond Helgason, Helen Pond Owen, Lynne M. Ivey, Louise Ivey Dillion, Kevin Ivey Miranne, Karen Ivey Hatcher, and Katherine Armstrong Davis; and brothers, Daniel H. Ivey, Jr. and Jimmy Armstrong, SJ.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Poché Pond; children, Craig R. Pond (Amanda), Julie Pond Edwards (Gary), Hélène Pond Kozeniesky (Craig); brother, Father John Armstrong, SJ; and sisters, Sr. Benedict de La Passion, LSP., Jane Ivey Kammer, and Marianna Armstrong Faradj. Dearly beloved by his grandchildren—Jessica, Kristen, Garrett, Meghan, Nicholas, Lucas, Lindsay, Savanna, and Emma; great-grandchildren—Bradley, Lachlan, Avianna, Brycen, Gunner, Ellis, Annabelle, Kaylin, and Calvin; sister-in-law, Sylvia Sandberg (David); brothers-in-law, Henri Poché (Sheila) and René Poché (Dale); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 1:00PM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00AM. Interment will follow the Mass in Metairie Cemetery.
The family would like to thank their extended family, dear friends, and his pastor, Father Raymond Igbogidi for their love and prayers. The family also extends their sincere appreciation to all those who guided him through his final journey, to include the nurses and doctors of Fresenius Kidney Center, Omni Care, and Compassus and his numerous medical specialists. Their support and compassion had a profound impact during these past few years.
