

Judge Rothschild is survived by his wife of 53 years Dorothy Bolton Rothschild; daughters Pamela R. Braedt (Gary) and Melissa R. Overstreet (Kermit); grandsons Jacob “Jake” W. Rothschild and Joshua R. Bryson as well as many relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Walter Julius Rothschild and Edith Shriever Rothschild. Judge Rothschild attended St. Alphonsus School and De La Salle High School. He went on to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps. Earning his B.A. from the University of New Orleans and going on to receive his J.D. from Loyola University. Judge Rothschild was admitted to the bar in 1973. He was a judge for the 24th Judicial District until his election in 2001 to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals from which he retired in 2012. He continued working consistently on an Ad Hoc basis through 2017, including an appointment to the Supreme Court. Walter was also an accomplished Tenor, affectionately known as the “Singing Judge”. In a final letter Judge Rothschild wrote, “Thank you Family and Friends. You will always have my love. God Bless you all.”
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 2:00PM. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM. Interment will be private.
