William (Kirk) Carney

William (Kirk) Carney, a resident of Kenner, Louisiana, passed away peacefully in his home on September 7, 2023. Born on October 21, 1943, he was the son of William Kirkland Carney, Jr. and Margaret Till Carney. Kirk enjoyed sharing his life with his late wife, Melody Lala Carney. They were high school sweethearts that reunited in 1982, and enjoyed 22 years of marriage. They attended Lakeview Christian Center regularly. Kirk was the father and stepfather of six children. He is survived by his six children, Christine Holmes (Will), David Carney, Mark Carney (Christy), Michael Carney (Yumiko), Robert Berthelot (Melissa), and Matthew Berthelot (Kelly); nine grandchildren, Sabreena, Trinity and Tettis Holmes, Mitchell and Danielle Berthelot, Jacob, Liliana, Raelynn, and Kai Carney; brother, Robert Carney; sister, Laura Catherine Carney. William graduated from Jesuit High School and University of New Orleans. He worked for WDSU, Louisiana State Parks, and Entergy Corporation. He actively participated in the Toastmasters for over 20 years. Kirk was a Saints fan and enjoyed politics. Whether he was watching sports, collecting doubloons, or enjoying

the cuisine of his city, he approached every experience with joy. As his health began to decline, he was superbly cared for by Marcela Meija. The family extends their sincerest thanks for her dedicated years of love support and service. Services will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd New Orleans, LA 70124. The memorial service will begin at 6:00PM.
