William John Newton passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, February 16, 2024. He was 79 years old. Bill was the adored husband of Elaine for 48 years. He is survived by his brother, Denny Brown, and his children, Dana Orgeron (Jamie), Audra Newton-Haskoor (Michael), Michelle “Missy” Newton-Chubb, and William “Billy” Newton (Stephanie). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Zachary Newton, Ryan Gueho, Rachel Gueho, Emilee Chubb, Sarah Morales, Jenna Haskoor, and Devan Young, and his great-grandchildren, Aidan Gueho, and soon to come, Zade Newton. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elaine Jeansonne Newton, and his parents, Frank and Lillian Newton.
Bill was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, Georgia and entered the United States Army after graduation. He proudly served his country while doing two tours in Vietnam.
Bill was a voracious reader, reading at least one book a day, which in turn made him an expert Scrabble player. He was a talented artist that enjoyed drawing and watercolor painting. He also enjoyed traveling the world.
Known as the “Godfather of Commercial Collections”, he revolutionized the industry and had several successful agencies throughout the years, with Newton & Associates being listed as one of the fastest growing agencies in the United States in Inc. 500 Magazine. Newton & Associates employed over 500 employees at the height of its success.
Bill touched many lives. He was the greatest husband, the most loving father, and a loyal friend. He was a mentor to many and greatly admired in his personal and professional life. He will truly be missed by countless people.
The family would like to give special thanks to Al and Judy LeBlanc, Bobbie Robicheaux, John and Lauren Robicheaux, and Penelope “Penny” DeRoche. Each of you held a special place in his heart.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Saturday, February 24, 2024, from 10:00AM until 1:00PM. The funeral service will immediately follow in the chapel of the funeral home. A private interment will be held at All Saints Mausoleum in Metairie Cemetery.
