

William James “Bill” Renton, Sr., born April 23, 1931, and departed this life on October 16, 2023. He is the son of the late Ray Renton & Lillian Apken Renton, Brother of the late Claire R. Economides, Raymond J. Renton Sr. & Edward L. Renton Sr. He married the love of his life, the late Shirley Liberto Renton in 1951 and for the next 65 years they shared life’s adventures together. They raised four children in the Catholic Faith: William J. “Bill” Renton Jr. (Mary Jane), Gregory J. Renton (Karen), Donna R. Hildebrand (John) & Jason C. Renton (Dawn). Grandfather of William Renton III (Anita), Kristen R. Harrison (Justin), Jeffrey Renton (Kristen), Brett Renton (Elizabeth), Lance Renton (Anna), Johnny Hildebrand (Rachele), Patrick Hildebrand (Miranda), Emily Renton, Jacob Renton and Hailey Renton. Great Grandfather of Caroline Renton, Mila Gostovic, Riley Harrison, Carter Harrison, Maggie Renton, Miles Renton, Marisa Culp, Charlotte Renton, Brooke Renton, Kipton Renton, Leah Renton, Cole Renton, Mason Renton, Alexis Hildebrand and Blake Hildebrand.
Mr. Renton was a native of New Orleans and lived in Metairie since 1938. He graduated from Metairie High School and served in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman (HM2) aboard the USS Consolation (AH-15) as an Operating Room Technician during the Korean Conflict. He was Co-Owner & Operator of E. & W. Printing Co. on Metairie Road for 34 years retiring on July 1, 1998. He was a parishioner of St. Angela Merici Catholic Church serving as a Lector at Mass. In addition he was a member of the Men’s Club & Past President of the Senior Citizens Club. On May 6th. 2012, he received The Order of St. Louis IX Medallion.
He was very active in Knights of Columbus, Ludovicum Council 4663, serving as Grand Knight for 2 years. He served as President for 6 years of the Metairie High School Alumni Association. He was Past President and Treasurer of the Good Ole’ Metairie Boys Club. He also was a treasurer of Metairie Chapter 725 of A.A.R.P. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 3267 in Harahan and was treasurer of the Five-O Tailgaters Group.
Mr. Renton loved Mardi Gras and was very active in the Carnival season. He was a Past Captain of The Knights of Jason when they paraded on Jefferson Highway. He was the President of the All For Fun Carnival Club for a number of years. He also was a long time member of the Krewe of Caesar, serving as a Float Lieutenant. He also enjoyed playing golf & was a Past President and a member of the Board of Directors of the New Orleans Golf Association. He also was an avid lifetime New Orleans Saints fan, early season ticket holder and he had the honor to attend their Super Bowl Championship in Miami.
Relatives & friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church, 901 Beverly Gardens Drive, Metairie, La. on October 21, 2023 at 1 p.m. Visitation will be held at church from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Masses preferred in lieu of flowers.
