William Anthony "Bill" Slatten, Jr.

William Anthony “Bill” Slatten, Jr. passed away peacefully at home on November 7, 2021, at 59 years old, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Bill was born on April 16, 1962 in New Orleans, Louisiana, to the late William Anthony Slatten, Sr. and Alma Slatten Pettit (Bob).

He was co-owner and executive vice president of Bisso Towboat Company Inc., founded in 1890 by his great- great- grandfather, Captain Joseph Bisso. He is survived by Jane Salyer Slatten, his loving wife of 26 years, and was a devoted father to his three children, William Anthony Slatten, III, Andrew Montgomery Slatten, and Laura Elizabeth Slatten. Also surviving Bill are his brother, Scott Tappan Slatten (Becky), sister, Elizabeth Slatten Healy (Dunbar), in-laws, Kay Salyer and the late Jerry Salyer, sisters-in-law, Ann Salyer Cox and Elizabeth Salyer Miller (Lance), and was a loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Bill attended Isidore Newman School and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration at Tulane University, where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. A major contributor to Tulane athletics and the construction of Yulman Stadium, Bill fulfilled his vision of, once again, attending football games on Tulane’s campus. He and his family also sponsored the Slatten Family Strength and Conditioning Center for the benefit of all Tulane athletes and was also a faithful supporter of Ducks Unlimited, Coastal Conservation Association, Christ Episcopal School, and St. Paul’s School in Covington. Bill moved to Covington with Jane in 2002 where they raised their children and where he spent the remainder of his life. Although he lived in Covington, Bill remained a member of several New Orleans Mardi Gras organizations and loved parading during Carnival season. A lifelong hunting and fishing enthusiast, he belonged to Little Lake Club and The Big Game Fishing Club for many years. Bill especially loved spending time at his cabin at Covey Rise with his wife, children and friends. Though he had many passions and talents, his most special gift was making and keeping friends for life; his family is very grateful for the outpouring of love from his countless friends from childhood to the present.

The family graveside service and burial is private; a celebration of Bill’s life will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 1:00PM at Covey Rise Lodge in Husser, LA.
