I met Zide when she was at La Madeleine, we became friends  and shared  the funny episodes of our respective lives which were many.  I admired her for she would always find  the time and the energy to help anyone who needed help , like driving a neighbor to work before  arriving at La Madeleine early enough so that  her station would be ready on time.   Mother Courage, that's Zide!   We will  all miss  you, my friend.

To all the Jahnckes, Allens, and numerous loved ones of Zide's, I cannot tell you how sad I am to learn of her death. Zide was such a fun, beautiful, and bright light that  it's hard to believe it's true. I smile, indeed laugh aloud, to think of her and the innumerable times she'd pick me up in that black Buick (or was it an Olds?) and we'd zoom by NOA, the Deke house, or Kappa Sig on the way to or from McGehee's to get a glimpse of her latest heartthrob.  If there were guys out front, I'd hit the deck but not Zide, she'd just drive on by, cigarette in hand, like McGehee's was 3 blocks away and this was the regular route to get there. It was hysterical. She was unflappable. We had such fun plotting away, and as we all knew life was never dull with Zide...though I'm sure we drove Mrs. Raymond totally crazy in homeroom. I will surely miss her and regret terribly not having seen her recently. Living in Virginia is no excuse for not staying in touch with one of my absolutely fondest memories of "the way we were." Rest in Peace, dear ZIde. God bless you and yours always. You certainly blessed us...

Charles, since I live in Asheville I have not seen your mom since our McGhee days. She and I were able to keep in touch through emails sharing our love for Asheville. Zide will be missed by many. I am truly sorry to hear of your family’s loss .

Zide was in my class at McGehee's.  She was a wonderful person and we shared some nice memories. Sadly we have not kept up later in life. I am so sorry to have learned of her death.

I was very sad to learn that Zide, who was in my graduating class at McGehee's, had left us.  Zide was one of my true favorites in our class because she always had a kind word, a beautiful smile, and a friendly gesture towards me.  I appreciated that so much.  It was important and I loved and respected her so much.  May you Rest in Peace, my Kind and Gentle Friend.

I met Zide when she was with Walgreens and from the first day we became fast friends.  I would invent reasons to go there just so we could talk because I knew that I was in for a real treat because the stories of her real life adventures were never-ending and never failed to delight!  She was funny, optimistic, entertaining and caring.  On any given day, I had watched as one customer after another would leave the store smiling a little brighter, laughing a little harder and feeling a lot better than they had when they walked in.  She truly cared about her customers and friends and it amazed me that she would remember your granddaughter’s or mother’s or other family member’s name, remember little tid-bits you’d told her about yourself, remind you not to forget something important - that, indeed, would’ve been forgotten if she hadn’t told you!  She was truly one of a kind and will never be forgotten by those of us lucky enough to have known her.  Rest In Peace, dear Zide.

We are so sorry to hear of Zide’s passing.  Her presence at the  Southern Yacht Club was always felt with her warmth and laughter and of her stories of growing up there!  Thoughts and prayers to the family.

Thinking about Zide's family as I remember so many wonderful times with her: sometimes crazy, zany times; always fun and interesting times. I would always get in trouble, but Zide would always escape the wrath of her parents and mine. They adored her! 

Ms. Zidé was a very special person. She was hard working and determined. I had the pleasure of working beside her for a couple years at La Madeleine’s. She was tough but so very kind. She always brought a smile to my face as to the faces of many others, customers and coworkers alike. I was saddened to read of her passing. She will be missed. Goodbye darling, may you now smile down upon us.
