
Anna Martha (Niemi) Wood, age 90 of Holiday, Florida passed away on Saturday May 10, 2014. Martha was born July 29th, 1923 in Mason, Wisconsin. She was the daughter of Ole and Anna (Waataja) Niemi. Martha attended school in Mason through the 10th grade and then went to Drummond High School for her junior year and then attended Ashland High School for her senior year, graduating in 1941. Martha left Mason and went to Chicago and then on to Washington state and worked in the Boeing Airplane plant during WWII, working as a “Rosie the Riveter”. She met and married Marshall (Woody) Wood in Washington. She later worked and lived in Maryland and retired from the Safeway Grocery store before moving to Holiday, Florida in 1979. Martha was a member of the Eastern Star for many years, The America Legion Auxiliary, and was also a member of the Mason Historical Society. Martha is survived by her sister, Lily (Gene) Brzezinski of Harrison, Ark. and a sister-in-law, Dona Niemi of Ashland, WI and many nieces and nephews. She is preceeded in death by her husband: Woody in 1980; brothers: Eino, Henry, and John; sisters: Vienna Nortunen, Mae Krzos, Helen Peepo, Eileen Haugen and Delores Watkins.
A memorial service and interment will be held at 11:00am Thursday May 22, 2014 at North/Meadowlawn Funeral Home, 4224 Madison St, New Port Richey, FL 34652.
