She ultimately married her childhood sweetheart, Glen Hemingway, on May 19,1945 in San Diego, California. They were very happily married for 57 years!
She had three children, two daughters and a son. Her son, Glen Ronald died prematurely at age 35. She is survived by her daughters Patricia Hemingway, Cynthia Mixon and her husband Joseph and their children, her beloved grandchildren, Joseph Glen, Jeffrey Walter, and Christina Marie.
Betty lived a full life. She was outgoing, vivacious, and loving. She enjoyed entertaining close friends and family in her home. She was a devoted wife, generous mother and grandmother and faithful Christian woman. Her strong faith helped her through the difficult times in her life.
Glen's career resulted in them being transferred to many cities. They left Detroit and lived in Westfield, New Jersey, Palo Alto, California, Atlanta, Georgia, Birmingham, Alabama, Madison, New Jersey, New Orleans, Louisiana and back to Atlanta, Georgia. After retirement they moved to Sanibel Island, Florida where Glen and she enjoyed the Florida life especially shelling, sunning, boating, and dining out. She had many fun and exciting visits there with her children and grandchildren! After 18 years of island life, they moved to Palm Harbor, Florida to be close to their daughter and grandchildren. When Glen passed in 2002, Betty moved to Trinity, Florida to a retirement neighborhood. She enjoyed reading, watching movies, and spending time with her family and her adorable kitty and constant companion Alberto. Betty was a blessing to us all and she will be greatly missed. We know she is at peace now and at home with our Lord.
In lieu of flowers, Betty requested donations be made to Georgia Agape, Inc. or Children’s Cancer Research Fund.
