

Dan married Patricia Sanderson on February 14, 1953 in Peoria, IL, she survives. Also surviving are three daughters; Linda of Peoria, Carol of Oldsmar, FL., Diane (Chris) Roy of New Port Richey, FL, four sons; Don of Peoria, Tom and Tim (Mary Jane) both of New Port Richey, FL, Dennis (Crystal) of Jacksonville, Fl, 14 grand and 8 great grandchildren, one brother; David Michael of Summerland, CA, and one sister; Patricia (Jack) Murray of Norman, OK. In addition to his parents, Dan was also preceded in death by a son; Dennis Patrick, a great grandson; William, and two brothers; John D. & Robert.
Dan worked at the Peoria Journal Star from 1951 to 1992, starting as a copy boy, then sports writer, general assignment, copy desk, and retired as day news editor. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Dan was in " Who's Who In The Midwest" in 1976-77, he was a 7 year board member of the Illinois Valley Striders, served on the March of Dimes Board of Directors for 8 years, was President of Richwoods Democratic Club in 1962, was President of the Peoria Newspaper Guild in 1961, a member of the first Journal Star Employee Stock Option Plan Advisory Board, member of the Holy Family Mens Club, the Mexican Mission Committee, Holy Family Parish Council, Amvets Post 64, Knights of Columbus,Spalding Council 427, the Independent Sports Club, the Hibernians, St. Patrick's Society, Alhambra Society, The Mayors Commission for the Disabled, Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame Committee, Woodruff Alumni Reunion Committee and the Bradley Alumni Association.
Dan was active in running for 20 years, having run in 7 marathons, 13 triathalons and 326 races.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 2 PM at the NORTH MEADOWLAWN FUNERAL HOME, 4244 Madison St. New Port Richey, FL, 34652 (727) 849-9281. Burial will be at a later date in Illinois. Arrangements under the direction of North/Meadowlawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, New Port Richey, FL.
