Donald R. Young

Donald Robert Young, 85, of New Port Richey, FL, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 15, 2018. Donald was born in Manchester, NH to Robert and Mary Young and moved to New Port Richey in 2001 from Palm Harbor, FL. A US Army veteran, he received the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany) and the National Defense Service Medal. He retired from the city of Manchester, then enjoyed working as a taxi cab driver and a cook at Shoney’s restaurant. He and his wife Carmella moved to Florida in 1990 for sunny weather and relaxed retirement living. They enjoyed week long trips to the beach and Donald was a big Buccaneers fan. Donald was a daily walker, and could usually be found in the workout room or playing cards in the rec room in his community. He enjoyed keeping up with family and cherished the holiday sit down dinners with his family. Don will always be remembered for his thoughtfulness, his kindness, and his concern for others.
Donald was predeceased by his daughter Patty and his son Tommy. Survivors include Donald’s wife Carmella Young, step-daughter Melissa and husband James Grant of Trenton, FL, step-son Rocky and wife Diane, 2 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am Friday, January 4, 2019, at Meadowlawn Funeral Home in New Port Richey, 4244 Madison St.,(727)-849-9281. Donald will be laid to rest privately at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.

Don, or "Pop" as I called him was a good father in law to me. Always supportive and helpful. He even gave me a car one day when he could no longer drive. How many sons in law can say that? Pop died in peace, finishing all he needed to do during his time here on earth. JIM
