Dorothy, known affectionately by her family as “Dotsy”, was the loving wife of the late Nicholas Amato, who died in 2005. Her parents were Robert P. Tunney Sr. and Dorothy Crowe Tunney of Philadelphia.
The oldest of eight siblings, Dotsy is the beloved sister of Robert P. Tunney, Jr. (Christina), Patricia Andrews (William R.), Michael Tunney (Patricia Hoberg), Mary C. Tunney (Philip Schneyman), Catherine T. Young (Richard), the late William Tunney (the late Rosemary; the late Barbara Bennington), and the late Joseph R Tunney (Allyson Joyner).
She was a loving mother to her stepson, the late Nicholas Amato, Jr. (Dawn), and Grandmother to Anthony Amato, Michael Amato and Devin Lachnicht.
Dorothy is fondly remembered by fellow retirees of Macy’s, residents of AHEPA Apartments and Oakview Terrace in New Port Richey, by dear friends Searla Nelson and Raymond Dumas, and by loved ones David and Craig Bender.
She is also mourned by a host of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
She was a proud graduate of St Hubert’s High School for Girls in Philadelphia, Class of 1953. After graduation, she worked in various secretarial and office management positions in the Philadelphia area, including employment at Paul Brothers Auto Body, where she met her future husband Nick, and at Laskaris & DeLuca, CPA.
Dotsy and Nick lived in Philadelphia, then made their home in Pennsauken, NJ before fulfilling their dream of moving to New Port Richey, Florida, where she resided for over 40 years. As Dotsy said, “Why would you want to live anywhere else”?
After moving to Florida, she worked part-time at Macy’s where she was a very popular salesperson with a loyal following, receiving recognition and significant bonuses for her large volume of cosmetics sales.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation in Dotsy’s memory to St. Hubert’s High School for Girls, www.huberts.org, or to another charity of your choice.
