Douglas David Nikel

January 21, 1964June 10, 2020

Douglas David Nikel, age 56, was born on January 21, 1964 in Cleveland, Ohio. After marrying his wife, Lisa (nee Gerhart) his "Dear" in 1992, they moved to New Port Richey, Florida in 1994. Doug enjoyed family time at home with Lisa and their kids, Greta (16) and Nathan (14). Taking Greta and Nathan to bowling, water-skiing, and attending their school events were important to Doug.

In addition to being an avid NASCAR fan, Doug looked forward to camping trips, riding ATVs, and daily bike rides with his family. He was a member of the Tampa Bay Water Ski Show Team. As the owner of A to Z Tool Sharpening, Doug could fix anything and was meticulous in his work as a sheet metal fabricator and welder.

Doug is preceded in passing by his beloved parents, August and Dorothy Nikel (nee Strahsburg).

The legacy and memory of Doug lives on in his wife, Lisa; his daughter, Greta; his son, Nathan; his sister, Joyce (nee Nikel) and her husband, Reinhold Toerek; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and friends.

Doug’s kind, calming, and gentle spirit, smile, humor, and workshop talents will be missed by many.

The date for a Celebration of Life gathering will be announced at a later time.

So sorry for you loss. Doug always seemed to be warmly smiling or laughing whenever we'd see him, as we both had sons who bowled. Our thoughts are with his family.

Doug was my childhood/lifetime friend. When I was 5 years old, he was one of the first kids that I met and played with on Bonny Blvd. Several years later, when I moved to the Tampa region, Doug would surprise me and come out to my shows with another childhood friend, (Dwayne White) Good times indeed.
I am so sad and shocked about Doug's passing. My deepest condolences to Lisa, the kids, Joyce and all family and friends of Doug Nikel.
Rest In Peace, my friend.

Dear Lisa, Greta and Nathan.
Remembering that Doug was the best neighbor when we first met him in 1985. He refused no request to assist us. As time went on, it was a blessing that we could see all of you when you were in town.
Please know that we are praying for your peace and comfort now and in the days ahead.

I never saw Doug when he wasn't wearing a smile, and usually had his nice children by his side. He was a hard working man of integrity and will be sorely missed, God Bless you Doug and condolences to Mrs Nikel and family.

I always enjoyed seeing Doug at the ski lake at practices and shows. He was always friendly and said hi with a smile. He was always in a good mood. He was one person I always made sure to talk to. He will definitely be missed.

We have known Doug since 1973, when we moved into our home. He was a tremendously nice young boy, for all of our sons to hang around with. Dwayne, who was the same age as Doug, always remained close friends. Doug always had a beautiful smile on his face. Not too long ago, when he came up to Ohio, I saw him at Dwayne's house, and had the pleasure to talk with him. A few years ago, we visited Lisa and Doug at their great home in Florida. These great memories will always stay with us. May God comfort Lisa and children in this huge loss. God Bless.

I’ve known Doug for almost 25 years. The young man I met so long ago at work was a lot different than the husband and father he grew into. He adored his bride, Lisa, and told me she made him the man he was and that he owed everything to her. The addition of his babies Greta and Nate made him so extremely proud. One of my favorite things he did was bring his kids with him when he worked. Doug was forever a friend. He had a very kind heart. He knew where his priorities were, his family.
