
Frank Beckham Harned, Jr., 75, of Holiday, Florida. passed away on August 25, 2015 at HPH Hospice, New Port Richey, Florida. Frank was born on May 1, 1940 in Dayton, Ohio to Frank, Sr. and Avis Trichler Harned. He attended Patterson High School in Dayton, Ohio before joining the Navy in 1957. He took basic training at The Great Lakes, Il. Frank was assigned to St. Albans in Long Island, N.Y.as a hospital corpman. He met his wife, Rita Newman, who was also stationed at St. Albans as a hospital corpmen. Frank was reassigned and attached to the Marines in Camp Lejeune, N.C.. Rita was reassigned to Jacksonville Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Fl.. They were married at the chapel at Jacksonville Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Fl. in 1959. Both were then stationed at Camp Lejuene, N.C.
After leaving the Navy, Frank and Rita moved to Dayton, Ohio to start raising their family. Frank had three children, Tammy, Brenda, and Frank III. Frank worked for the Dayton Daily News, as Accounts Payable Manager for 18 years. He learned to be a pressman in order to run the newspaper during strikes. Frank earned his Associate's degree in Marketing at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio. He also attended Wright State University in Fairborn, Ohio. He left the Dayton Daily News and went to Kansas City, Mo. to run an import/ export company. He and Rita travelled all over the South, until settling in Chattanooga, Tn. Living in Hixson, Tn, for 13 years, Frank worked for CBL Realty. Then in 2005, he and Rita moved to Holiday, Florida.
Frank lived life with a sense of adventure and fun. His interests and hobbies were playing hockey and golf, hiking, camping, fishing, watching the Rays and Lightning, photography, woodworking, a Civil War enthusiast and reenactor, gardening, reading and geneology. He was one of only 7 people in the U.S. to use the Collodion process of wet plate photography. He would reenact at Civil War events as the photographer.
Frank was a former Patron for The Order of the Amaranth and a former Mason. He served as Past Commander for the Sons of Union Veterans for Missionary Ridge, Tennessee #63. He served as the Historian/ Photographer for American Legion Post # 79 in New Port Richey, Florida. He was a greeter at First United Methodist Church in New Port Richey.
Frank is a member of American Legion Post # 79, New Port Richey, Florida. He is a former member of Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church. Frank was a memeber of First United Methodist Church in New Port Richey, Florida.
He is preceeded in death by his father,Frank, Sr., mother,Avis Trichler Harned, sister, Dorothy Mae Harned Holmes. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rita Newman, daughters Tammy Harned, Holiday, Florida., Brenda Oda (Charles) Bellefontaine, Ohio, son Frank III (Debbie) Brandon, Florida, Grandchildren, Tyler Oda (Jen), Huber Heights, Ohio, Ryan Harned, Brandon, Florida, and Shelby Oda, Bellefontaine, Ohio, Great grandchildren, Noah and Caleb Harned, Brandon, Florida.
Visitation is Friday, Sept. 4, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at North Meadowlawn Funeral Home, New Port Richey, Fl. Celebration of Life Service is Sept. 8, 2015 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, New Port Richey, Fl. Interment at Florida National Cemetery at Bushnell, Fl.
