

James Martin Cooney Jr., of New Port Richey, Florida, passed away on July 11, 2026.
Jim was born in Cleveland, Ohio, to James and Natalie Cooney. He graduated from Gulf High School in 1982 and proudly served his country for six years in the United States Navy as an Interior Communications Electrician aboard the USS James Madison submarine.
Following his military service, Jim built a career as a Quality Control Officer, providing quality control services for water pumps. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication.
Above all, Jim cherished spending time with his family whenever he could. He also loved traveling, playing pool, seeking out new experiences, and his favorite pastime—“ladies”. Jim always embraced life to the fullest with a sense of adventure and humor.
Jim is survived by his father, Donald Barile; his dad, James "Jim" Cooney Sr.; his sister, Bridget Cooney McCabe; his brother, Nick (Tori) Barile; his nephew, Andrew McCabe; his niece, Patricia McCabe; his Guardian Angel "Auntie," Marianne (Jerry) Dodd; many other aunts, uncles, cousins and TEAM JIMMY, the caring and compassionate nurses and therapists who became a very important part of his life.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Natalie Barile, and his sister, Patricia Cooney Marlowe.
Jim always had a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His warm smile and kind, gentle nature had a way of brightening every room he entered and bringing joy to those around him.
He will be remembered for his happy, fun-loving spirit, his unwavering love for family and friends, his dedicated service to his country, and his remarkable ability to make the most of every moment. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
