

James attended school in Rochester, Minnesota, from 1952 through 1957. As a young man, he joined the United States Navy with his friend Bernie Begin, completed basic training at Great Lakes, Illinois, served with the Sixth Fleet, and was honorably discharged in February 1962.
Following his military service, James worked for the Norfolk & Western Railroad in Norfolk, Virginia. In 1966, he relocated to Rochester, Minnesota, where he worked in the auto parts business. In 1970, he moved to Chicago, Illinois, and began a long and steady career with American Airlines, retiring in November 2001 after 28 years of service.
James was happily married to Loretta McLean of Chicago, Illinois, for over 28 years, until her passing in 2004. Together, they took early retirement and built a beautiful home in New Port Richey, Florida, where James resided. He was an active member of the Elks Lodge #2284, the American Legion Post, the Non-Commissioned Officers Club #646, and the Eagles Aerie #3153.
James was preceded in death by his mom, dad, wife, brother, and son. He is survived by his sister, son, and daughter.
