

Jim was born March 1, 1932 in the riverfront community of Haverstraw in Rockland County, NY to Thomas "Tuck" Schuler, proprietor of Tuck's Roost - a well known establishment in the community - and Amelia "Mickey" (Mackey) Schuler. Jim was a graduate of the 1950 class of Haverstraw High School and always talked about how "Haverstraw was the greatest place to grow up". He was extremely athletic and very proud of his accomplishments on the school's football and basketball teams.
Jim served in the U.S. Navy from 1950-1954. He worked tirelessly all his life, finally retiring from Tilcon in 1995.
Always active in local politics, Jim was elected to the Haverstraw town council in 1971, a position he held until 1989 when he was appointed to the Rockland County Legislature and served as Deputy Majority Leader in 1992. As a proud Democrat, Jim was known for his honesty and independence and was willing to work with anyone from all political persuasions.
Jim was also very involved in community activities and was a member of the Haverstraw Elks, serving as Exalted Ruler. He was an avid golfer and dedicated Notre Dame Football fan. He was extremely outgoing and known for his friendliness and kindness to all and lived by the mantra that "every day is a bonus".
Jim is survived by his wife of 45 years, Elizabeth (Rose) of New Port Richey, his son Thomas of New York, NY, and his daughters, Susan of New Port Richey and Stephanie of Quincy, MA as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents and sister, Doris (Schuler) Kelly.
