

Born on June 26, 1947, in Philadelphia, PA, Kathy lived a life marked by compassion, intelligence, and service. She was a proud graduate of Archbishop Prendergast High School, class of 1965, and went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts in English from Rosemont College in 1969. That same year, she began her long and accomplished career with the telephone company.
In 1970, Kathy married Richard Karagozian, and they moved to Silver Spring, Maryland, where they lived for nearly three decades. Kathy worked for Bell Atlantic for 27 years, demonstrating unwavering dedication, professionalism, and kindness throughout her career. Following her retirement, she and Richard relocated to Florida in 1997 to be closer to their son, Michael.
Family was the center of Kathy’s world. She was the proud and loving mother of Michael, and a deeply adored Nana to Emily, Reid, and Bryce. Her nurturing spirit and unconditional love were constants in their lives, and her memory will forever be a source of comfort and strength.
She was also a sister to Paul, a beloved aunt, and a steadfast friend to many.
A woman of deep and enduring faith, Kathy was a devout Catholic and a dedicated parishioner of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Trinity, FL. She generously gave of her time and heart as a leader of the Eucharistic Ministry, founding member of the church Women’s Council, a volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul, and as a Bible study leader, finding purpose and joy in her service to others.
Kathy was also known for her incredible creativity and artistic flair. Her handmade greeting cards and paper crafts were more than just beautiful works—they were heartfelt gifts that touched the lives of everyone who received them. These keepsakes will continue to remind her loved ones of the kindness and joy she brought into the world.
Kathy will be remembered for her smile, style, gentle strength, unwavering faith, and the deep love she shared with those around her.
Kathy was preceded in death by her husband Richard Karagozian and loving parents Beryl and Paul Schmitz Sr. She is survived by son, Michael (Kendra), grandchildren Emily 20, Reid 14, and Bryce Karagozian 13, and brother, Paul Schmitz (Joanne) and their children Tracy, Matt, Jeff, and Randy.
A visitation will be held at Meadowlawn Funeral Home from 6-8pm on Friday, May 16, 2025, and a funeral mass will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Trinity, FL, on May 17, 2025 at 10:30am. Kathy and her family kindly requests that any memorial donations be made to St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church or the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
