Lucy Durso, 88-years-old, crossed over peacefully on Friday January 17, 2014, at her home in Holiday, Florida. Lucy was born on June 3, 1925 in Yonkers, New York and was married to Dominic James Durso on November 16, 1946. Lucy was the eldest sibling of 4 beautiful sisters and 4 handsome brothers, her sisters: Dolly & Susan, who still live with their spouses Richard and Robert, respectively, and Linda who predeceased her. Brother Joe, Carmen (Sonny) Warren. Salvatore has predeceased her.
After growing up on her family's estate in Stormville, New York she met her Sweetheart, Dominic James Durso and had a blissful courtship before being married at St. Dennis Church.
Married for 67 years, Lucy & Dominic raised their 4 dear children, Robert, James, Warren and Diane over the years in Dutchess County, New York. Possessing a true servant’s heart, Lucy faithfully cared for family and friends through delicious cooking from scratch – (including her famous meatballs), sewing and crocheting. A woman of faith and the heart of the Durso family, Lucy shaped their spirituality by her tireless Catholic example, and also through various Catholic Charismatic prayer groups and activities. With a real zest for life, Lucy loved to draw, paint, write, read, pray, and play games/cards – especially with her five Grandchildren (Leah, Jeff, Kacie, Ryan, and Andrea), chat with friends and family, enjoy her great-grandson, Spencer, and travel…just to name a few.
After the couple’s retirement in 1986, Lucy and Dominic relocated to and settled in Florida. During her retirement years, Lucy loved to go on outings with her Red Hat Society and eat with friends through their Dinner Club.
Lucy was known for her ease in frequent conversation with even total strangers some may be surprised to learn of the extreme shyness of her youth. Yet even as a child, she possessed a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humor. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing love and faith. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter, and joking around, will never be forgotten.
