On Saturday, July 25, 2020, Madeline Alexander, loving wife and mother left this earth at age 91. Madeline was born on August 7, 1928 in Middletown, New Jersey to Antonio and Assunta (Modestini) Cusano. On September 29, 1946 she married Peter J Alexander of Brooklyn, N.Y. They raised two daughters, Susan and Renee, and one son, Mark.
Madeline had numerous careers over the course of her life from housewife & stay-at-home mom to professional seamstress in the hustle & bustle world of the garment industry where she was a proud member of the ILGWU (International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union) to her final position before her retirement in 1989 as a bank reconciliation clerk at the New York City headquarters of Equitable Life.
Her varied interests and hobbies included bowling (member of the 600 club), playing and winning at cards - most especially - gin rummy, pinochle, and poker. Later in life, as her leisure time increased she added BINGO nights and quiet time with her crossword puzzles. Surprisingly, she had a lifetime passion for the sports of thoroughbred horse racing, tennis (Evonne Goolagong and Pete Sampras were her all-time favorites) and above all else baseball - she was an avid and knowledgeable fan of the Boston Red Sox, tracking statistics, scores and every win or loss along the way. Summer vacations in the Poconos and Catskills was an annual tradition for the family and sometimes included aunts, uncles and cousins too! Madeline always found time to volunteer at her church and in the community organizing and running fun games and activities for her friends and neighbors.
Quiet and thoughtful by nature, Madeline was a loyal, generous and loving friend. Being an amazing cook, she loved preparing meals that always led to her favorite pass time- game night with family. She was a strong, independent woman and thinker that never shied away from sharing her thoughts or opinions. She took great comfort in the strength of her Catholic faith. Madeline was preceded in death by her husband Peter, her parents, and five loving siblings. She is survived by her three children, Susan, Mark and Renee, a son in law Lou and numerous nieces and nephews.
