Maria Theresa Poelzl was born in Mahopac, New York on October 9, 1962 to Helen Sokolowski Poelzl and Frederick Joseph Poelzl and two very happy sisters, Helene and Lydia. What a joy it was to welcome her into our family!
Maria spent her first few years in Mahopac until our family moved to Treasure Island, Florida, where Maria immediately became a “beach kid”, and for the rest of her life one of her great joys was to walk on the beach and enjoy the sun and the water.
Maria attended St. Petersburg College where she earned a degree in Business Administration. Shortly after graduation she was hired by the college where she spent the next 20 years in an administrative capacity.
She married her husband, Joseph Campbell, on a bright and sunny day, April 30, 2004. They made their home together in Largo, Florida. Both Maria and “Joey” enjoyed Civil War re-enacting and spent many a weekends bringing history to life.
Maria often gave of herself by volunteering at the Metropolitan Ministries food banks and on drives to collect teddy bears for hospitalized children. She gave her time where ever she could to help others in need.
She’s preceded in death by her mother, Helen Sokolowski Poelzl and is survived by her father, Frederick Jospeh Poelzl and her sisters, Helene Poelzl Kalavsky and Lydia Poelzl Chisholm, grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Meadowlawn Funeral Home, New Port Richey, on June 16 at 1pm.
