She was born in Amherst, VA , on March 27, 1926. She lived in Staunton, VA until 1977 when she moved to New Port Richey, FL.
She worked as a sewing machine operator and a Certified Nurse Aide/Home Health Aide. She retired from HCA (Community) Hospital in New Port Richey, FL. She was also active in the women's auxiliary of the Moose Lodge # 1635 (VA) and loved dancing to the music of the Versatile Keys - her sister Bunty's band.
Mildred is preceded in death by her two sons, Michael D. and David B. Jackson; her parents, Thomas and Elizabeth (Martin) Sorrells; three brothers, Albert, Thomas and Ernest Sorrells; three sisters, Christine Williams, Ila Mae (Mickie) Mills and Priscilla Hund.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Michael Scherping; grandchildren Travis (Jackson), Eric and Emily Scherping of New Port Richey, FL and two sisters, Lucy Gruel of Charleston, SC and Evelyn "Bunty " McKee of Staunton, VA; many nieces, nephews and their children.
Her life long passion was bowling. She was an avid amateur beginning as a young woman and she didn't quit until illness prevented it at a much older age.
She bowled in many leagues plus local, state and national tournaments. Three of her sisters and daughter often went cross country to bowl in the nationals and she enjoyed them immensely. She also enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles, daytime soap operas, romance novels and country music. She considered herself a Christian even though she wasn't an active member of any church.
A graveside funeral will be held Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018 @ 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Meadowlawn Memorial Gardens on Madison St., New Port Richey, FL.
