I'm so sorry to hear of Shirley's passing.  I am a distant cousin, (My grandmother was Magdalena (Stoick) Karels.  I didn't know Shirley, as I was  a bit younger, and grew up in the Rosen, area, but got to know her brother, Dennis at Morris, and through his wife, Dorothy, who along with David's wife, Milly, are cousins, also.  I also remember Shirley's parents, from various community gatherings.  Ray Karels

Our friendship between our two families goes back 68 years.  Shirley and I were the two girls among 9 boys and we would play together every time our parents got together to go fishing, or play cards etc.  We were troopers because the boys let us play with them such as kick the can, build snow forts, run around the hay loft, or sledding down the hill near the Stoick farm on a sled or tobagan.  There were very few disagreements....we all got along so well, and memories were made, especially at Lake Blanch where our families would go to retreat after working hard in the fields.  Those were the good old days and I think we knew it at the time, that a friendship like that is hard to find!  Our sympathies to Scott and his family as well as all the Stoicks who will miss Shirley and our prayers to Velda who now has lost two children as my mom had.  Lovingly, Gail Wendland
