It is with heavy hearts that the family of Terrence Patrick Hektoen shares the news of his passing on June 17, 2026, at the age of 73. A resident of New Port Richey, Florida, Terry passed away peacefully, surrounded by those who meant the world to him.
Terry Hektoen was born on December 2, 1952 to Earl and Jeanette (nee Fitzgibbons) Hektoen, and survived by his son, Jake Hektoen, wife Maggie (McNamara) Hektoen, brother Thomas (Margaret) Hektoen, and sister Judy (Paul) Einikis, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Jeanette Hektoen, twin brother Tim (Mary Ann) Hektoen, brother Michael Hektoen, and sister Jeanette Hektoen.
Terry's gift for connecting with people was evident from an early age. As a student, he was known for his outgoing personality, infectious sense of humor, and genuine kindness. A talented swimmer, he found his calling in the sport during high school, where he was elected homecoming king and formed friendships that lasted a lifetime.
His dedication in the pool earned him a swimming scholarship to Chicago State University, where he pursued his passion and earned a degree in education. Following graduation, Terry began his career as a teacher and swim coach at West Aurora High School.
Terry later partnered with his twin brother, Tim, to help establish Hektoen Homes, building custom homes throughout Northwest Indiana. Though he found success in the family business, his passion for teaching and coaching never left him. In time, he returned to the profession he loved in New Port Richey, Florida, where he proudly served as an educator and swim coach, helping students and athletes develop not only their skills, but also their confidence, character, and direction in life.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Terry's greatest joys were found with family and friends. He loved fishing and cherished every opportunity to be out on the water. He had a remarkable ability to make people laugh, brighten a room with his presence, and make others feel welcome. Above all, he was devoted to his family and worked tirelessly throughout his life to provide for those he loved. His generosity, humor, and unwavering commitment to others will be remembered by all who knew him.
