Ron, or Onie or as he was affectionately known, lived a life of joy, love, and dedicated service to others. Born on April 19, 1954 to a doctor, Rosendo Bautista, and pharmacist, Elisa Barzaga, in a brood of eight children, he was naturally inclined towards the medical field although he may not have known at first. His favorite story is telling how he dabbled courses in Pre-Med, then Business, then Dentistry, before his father asking him incredulously if he was planning to take each and every course offered at the University of the East. With a wife and his firstborn thrust into his hands, he flew to America in the early 70’s to join his parents, and made the decision to enlist in the U.S. Navy at the age of 20 in Philadelphia, PA. He brought Zeny and Roel over and started the military family life in Portsmouth, VA; before being stationed in Newport, RI in 1979; then Okinawa, Japan in 1985, where Alyssa was born. He was Chief Hospital Corpsman, specialized as an advanced X-ray technician, earning numerous distinctions: he had two Awards of the National Defense Service Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Navy Unit Commendation, the Fleet Marine Force Ribbon, three Awards of Overseas Service Ribbon, five Awards of Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. He was also a .45 caliber sharpshooter and 9mm pistol marksman. After 20 proud years of service, at the age of 40, he retired in 1995 to pursue his dream retirement life in the Philippines. He loved his vintage die-cast car collection, endless music playlists of oldies but goodies, and his wife’s delicious cooking. He also had a knack for collecting flashlights, and was known for having a flawless memory for random calendar dates.
Ronaldo is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Zeny Bautista; his son, Roel Bautista and wife Lili; his daughter, Alyssa Bautista; his mother, Elisa Barzaga Bautista; his siblings Rolando Bautista and wife Ofelia, Eloisa Bautista, Romeo Bautista, Roel Bautista, Ricardo Bautista, Maribeth Bautista and husband Ron Ih; and many extended family members and friends in the United States and in the Philippines.
He is preceded in death by his father, Rosendo Bautista; sister, Eleanor Bautista; and sister-in-law, Virgincita Bautista.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 1-4PM at Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel, at 1076 Madison Ave, New York, NY 10028. A second visitation and funeral service will follow TBA in his hometown of Dasmarinas, Cavite, Philippines.
