
Candice (Candy) Colleen Belter, 72 of Newburgh IN, passed away on Friday, July 25th 2025. She was born on June 8, 1953 in Vanderburgh County, IN to the late Artie M. Owen Jr and late Berta (Walker) Owen Mankenberg.
Candy attended West Lafayette High school, graduating in 1971. She continued her education at Indiana University. Candy obtained employment with Bell Telephone Company and remained there until relocating to Newburgh IN. After relocating she spent the remainder of her career working for the Warrick County Public Library system.
Candy was an avid and expert genealogist during her spare time. Especially in compiling the history of the Owen and Walker families, as well as some of her friends. Because of her avid interest in genealogy, she became a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and Society of Indiana Pioneers. Candy traveled to Ireland, England and France and conducted family background searches while on holiday. She enjoyed quiet times at home with family and friends, and taking long leisurely walks with her beloved dogs. Candy spent weekends visiting local markets, craft fairs, and specialty events. Candy loved following Indiana University basketball – Go Hoosiers!
Candy is preceded in death by her parents Artie M. Owen Jr, Berta (Walker) Mankenberg and step mother Betty Owen.
She is survived by siblings Artie “Chip“ M. Owen III, Chris L. Owen (Marie), Robin K Bowmer (Graham), Leslie K Koonce (Jeff), Scott T Owen (Becky), Melanie T Renner (Chris), 7 nieces and nephews, and her two cherished fur babies Maxx and Jack.
