He served in the US Marine Corps during WWII. Afterwards, he joined the Evansville Fire Department and served as Captain. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He and his wife started Duncan Landscape Nursery which they owned for over 35 years. He was an entrepreneur and thrived in many business; commercial and rental properties, including Duncan Mini Storage. He owned and raised thoroughbred horses, world champion Saddlebreds and world champion cattle. Claude loved his garden and visiting with friends at the Donut Bank. Memberships included American Saddlehorse Association, Epworth United Methodist Church and the American Legion and past membership in Mended Hearts and the American Nursery Association. He was a hard worker with an endless amount of determination. He was always able to figure out ways to get things done. Claude always had stories to share of growing up with his two brothers, Frank and Norman, stories of the war and of course stories of his love for horses. Our Dad was the rock of our family and will be truly missed. But our memories of him will go on forever in our hearts and minds.
Claude is preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Bettye K. Duncan; daughters, Kathy Jo and Jane Ann Duncan and brother, Norman B. Duncan.
He is survived by daughters, Claudia (Mike) Schultheis and Gayla (Mark) Zimmer; son-in-law, Tony White; grandchildren, Kara Zimmer, Matthew Zimmer and Alex White; great-grandson, Lucas Kochis and brother, Frank Duncan.
