Red was a Korean War veteran from 1951 to1953, serving in the battle of Pork Chop Hill. He was a member of Operating Engineers local 181 for over 50 years, as a crane operator.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys (Broyles); father, John Carter; brothers John, James, and Terry; sister, Mozelle (Simpson).
Red is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wilma (Utley); sons, Joseph W. of Alaska and Donald R. of Virginia; daughter, Lisa Gardner of Evansville; 14 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
There will be no services at Alexander Newburgh Chapel.
