Donald E. Lawrence

Donald E. Lawrence, 76, of Newburgh, IN, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Angel River Rehabilitation Center, after a long illness. He was born September 10, 1935, in Dundee, Mississippi to the late James E. and Beatrice Lawrence.

He was a United States Army Korean War Veteran. He also was an industrial engineer at Whirlpool Corporation, retiring in 2003, after 38 years of service.

Don was gifted with a beautiful voice and singing was his passion. He was lead singer with the Beacons Gospel Quartet and past member of the Evansville Songfellows Barbershop group.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barbara (Ritchie) Lawrence of Newburgh; son, Michael S. Lawrence (Johna) of Baskett, KY; daughter, Jennifer Lawrence Sims of Newburgh; grandchildren, Duncan, Michaela, Miriam and Connor Lawrence and Ryan, Cody, and Braden Sims; brother, Randy Lawrence; sister, Karen Lawrence; and sister-in-law, Ruthann Ritchie.

Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, officiated by Rev. Lee Shepherd, with burial at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Rockport, IN. Friends may visit Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
