She was a devout Catholic whose faith guided her throughout life. As a dedicated homemaker, she devoted herself to raising her five children, at one point all under the age of eight, while creating a home filled with love. Dorothy found joy in baking, sewing, and crafting, and she also enjoyed traveling. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with her beloved grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, “Curly” Schmitt; son, Tom Schmitt; daughter, Jane Daywalt; grandson, Jesse Schmitt; brothers, Cletus Gilles and Alfred Gilles and sisters, Ruth Hartz and Patty Hoffman.
She is survived by her children, Tim Schmitt (Kathy), Vicki Loughrie (Jim) and Joan Fischer (Frank); grandchildren, Calvin, Abbey, Andrea, Aaron, Cristi, David, Vanessa, Mallory, Cassie and Zachary; and brother, Eugene Gilles (Betty).
A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 10, 2026, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Road, officiated by Fr. Bernie Etienne. Her final resting place will be St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.
