

Edwina (Eddi) Purdue Bawel Dagley was born on March 6, 1936, in Evansville, Indiana to Edward and Beatrice Purdue. She passed peacefully on May 19, 2021, in Lombard Illinois, having outlived her first husband of 35 years, The Reverend Charles A. Bawel and her second husband of 20 years, Leo J. Dagley Jr., of Rockwall, TX.
Her survivors include children, Lisa Bawel Bishop; son, Brandon L. Bawel (Jane); Stepchildren, Debra Dagley Brock (Steve), Lucy Dagley Pruitt (Kal) and Eric Dagley (Lisa), and eighteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Edwina graduated from Indiana University with a B.S. in Speech Pathology and Audiology in 1958. She earned a Master of Education degree from Louisiana State University in 1972 and later began post graduate work at Texas Women’s University. Edwina retired after thirty-seven years in the field of education. She was a charter member of the Highland Park (TX) D.A.R. and an active member of St. Paul Evangelical and Reformed Church and was for many years a volunteer at the Dallas Arboretum where she served as chairman of the Docent Board. During the 1970’s, she was named an Outstanding Young American Woman. In her retirement, her volunteering extended to the First United Methodist Church of Rockwall, the Helping Hands organization and the Dallas Area Parkinsonism Society. Edwina was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2009.
Her interment will be in Lynnville Indiana with husband Charles and a public memorial service will take place at a later date In Rockwall TX.
