Elizabeth Ann Byrnes Bryant Scarbrough, 87, of Newburgh, passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2025 after a long hospital stay. By her bedside, offering prayers were her husband of 31 years, Gene Scarbrough, daughters, Tammy and Angie; niece, Becky; grandson, Troy; his wife, Barbra; great granddaughters, Roxie and Pandora; grandson, Bryce; great niece, Cierra, and Chaplain Paul Crawford. She was a woman of strong faith in the Lord.
In her younger years, Betty worked as a telephone exchange operator when she lived at home with her parents while her then husband, Dudley, served in the Navy. She went on to be employed in retail sales for 31 years, working tireless hours. One of the perks was meeting several celebrities such as Tristan Roberts, Red Skelton and Tim McGraw. Betty spent a lot of her leisure time crocheting. She made many afghans for the residents at a nursing home close to her home, where she visited her sister-in-law, Vi. She enjoyed Morell hunting, fishing, bowling, camping, gardening, mahjong, jigsaw puzzles, crocheting and baking. Betty loved spending time with loved ones, especially during holidays, sometimes clad in a “Santa” suit.
She is survived by her husband; 2 daughters; 2 stepsons; 3 grandsons; 8 great grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews.
When Heaven’s gates opened, she was greeted by her brothers, Bob, Frank and Tom; sister, Nancy, and her grandson, Wyatt.
She will be deeply missed and always in the hearts of her family and friends.
No public services will be held.
