Genevieve "Genny" Barton

Genevieve “Genny” Girth Jakubek Barton, 86, of Evansville, IN passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2026 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital. She was born May 19, 1940 in Evansville, IN to the late Herbert and Malisa (Barrett) Mayes.

Genny was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. She spent a decade as a crane operator at Alcoa Industries, from which she eventually retired. Her earlier professional experience includes working as a key punch operator at the National Temperature Control Center. Genny was also a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Dennis Jakubek (1984); second husband, Albert Barton (2022); sisters and brothers, Evaline Beasley (Russell), Geneva Edwards (Leroy), Beaulis Doughty (Vaunda), Franklin Wilhite (Lillie), Samuel Tolbert (Stella); and three stepsisters, Margaret, Idlene, and Macneile.

Genny is survived by her daughters, Denise Bell (Ruben), Dawn O’Nan (Troy); stepdaughters, Nola Cochran (Jeff), Lara Barton, Dona Gerard (Mike); stepson, Aaron Barton (Wendy); grandchildren, Lacie Abrolat and her son, Tavin Thomas, Corie Bell, Caleb Bell; and six stepgrandchildren.
