Gobel J. Ward, Jr., 71, of Newburgh, IN, born October 22, 1947, was a patient of Kindred Hospice. On January 3, 2019, he became a six-year survivor of Pancreatic Cancer. He passed away at his residence in Newburgh, Indiana on Friday, January 11, 2019.
Gobel was a Navy Veteran during the Vietnam War. He was also a member of the United Mine Workers Union, having worked in the underground mines of Union Co., Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosalee and Gobel J. Ward, Sr.; sisters, Theresa Tornatta (Jimmie), Polly Cook, and Patsy Ward; brothers-in-law, Jimmie Ryder, and Earl Hooge; and his first wife of 27 years, Wanda Pressley Ward.
Gobel is survived by his present wife of 23 years, Rosemary Ward; sons, Scott Ward and Robert Daniels; step-sons, Jason Stearsman and Billy Stearsman; and step-daughter, Kathleen Duke; five granddaughters; five grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Peggy Hooge, Julie Franklin and Rosie Ryder.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 15th, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Route 261, Newburgh, Indiana. The funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Alexander Memorial Park Cemetery – Chapel of Remembrance, 2200 Mesker Park Drive.
