Born on February 9, 1950, in Evansville, Indiana, Rick was a lifelong resident of the community he held dear. He graduated from Castle High School ~ Class of 1968 and soon after enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country. His military service instilled in him a lasting sense of discipline and purpose.
In 1971, Rick married Linda (Seibert) Tanner. Their devoted marriage spanned 54 years and was marked by deep love and shared experiences. Rick was a proud father to his son Kristoffer and found immense joy in his role as “Boppa” to his four grandchildren: Haydn (Anna Kate), Hadly, Henry, and Hildy. He was also eagerly anticipating the arrival of his first great-grandchild, Baby Tanner, expected in May 2026.
Rick had a zest for life and pursued his passions with enthusiasm. He was an avid fan of horseracing and spent many enjoyable days at the track. He also loved golf and cherished time on the course with friends and family. Travel brought him happiness and allowed him to create lasting memories through exploration.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Randal Tanner and Jo Ann (Helm) Tanner, as well as his sister, Betty Rose Michel.
A visitation honoring Rick's life will be held at Living Word Christian Church, 3888 IN-261, Newburgh, Indiana, Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
